In December, 2011, DARK SIDE visited the city of LIMA for a couple of concerts; specifically, to honor METALLICA’s 30 years, in the official event of metclub del Perú 30M, which is, to this point, the most relevant experience of the band in its 11 years of artistic career. The success of this tour was mostly due to the magnificent scene and great response of the head bangers in the two concerts given in Barza and Nuclear Bar respectively; also, the quality of the events, the excellent sound systems and the outstanding level of the bands with whom DARK SIDE shared the scene, played a part in the superior quality of this tour. Acknowledgements go to our supporting friend CARLOS TOLEDO, a first rate host, for making this experience come true; to Peruvian metal fans for their incomparable response and energy. We send a very special greeting to the bands NECROPSYA, ARSENAL, EPILEPSIA, INFERUS and MINDFIELD.

DARK SIDE was selected the national support band for WHIPLASH’s 25^th anniversary concert in Bogotá. The North American band WHIPLASH was brought to Bogotá, for the first time, by SIN Producciones, for the “Thrashing Colombia Vol. 4” event, and made an unforgettable concert on November 7^th, 2009. This concert included the presentation of a remarkable set of Trash Metal bands from Bogotá, and the prelude to WHIPLASH by DARK SIDE, representing the metal from Boyacá once again.

DARK SIDE had the honor of being a special guest in the 3^rd BOYACÁ ROCK Concert, during the 2012 “Festival Internacional de la Cultura de Boyacá”, representing the metal music of the city of Duitama. The band shared scene with important Colombian rock and metal bands, such as SOCAVON (Tunja), PERPETUAL (Bucaramanga), KILLCROPS (Bogotá), and the legendary metal band, KRAKEN.

DARK SIDE’s debut album was recorded independently and released in September 2005. It implied a lot of hard work from the band and their supporting friends Cesar and Julián Barrera. The album contains 5 songs, and one cover of a song by SLAYER.

Recorded and produced under the strict engineering of Daniel Espitia, and the musical direction of the band. “The Beginning of the End” is the name of the main song of this album, full of new atmospheres and images. “From the deep mental abysms emerge sinister melodies, recalling war cries and moans; kingdoms of disgrace, withered from horror; stressing the beginning of the end”.

Made in Boyacá, in beautiful places: Laguna de Tota, Playa Blanca, Iza and the city of Duitama.

This song is the single of the same name released in 2011. The video belongs to 30M at the event celebrating the 30th anniversary of METALLICA live in the Barza Bar of Lima (Peru) where DARK SIDE was honored to represent Colombia.

This song was composed in 2006 but this is the 2011 version. The video is a collection of moments from presentations made at the last three years at various events such as Never Die Duitametal Fest, Metal A (4th edition), the MYSPACE Colombia, the 2009 and TRHASHING Exporock VOL 4 COLOMBIA.

This is part of the tribute to the 30 years of METALLICA in 2011 with a cover of one of his best-known classics. The video belongs to 30M at the event live in the Barza Bar of Lima (Peru) where DARK SIDE was honored to represent Colombia.

First line up (2000-2003):

DARK SIDE was initially formed by Rogger Silva (lead vocals), Howard Avella (Lead guitar), Oscar Martínez (Drums), Belman Rodríguez (Rhythmic guitar) and William Rodríguez (Bass guitar). They played songs by bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, among others. The name of the band comes from a song by Morbid Angel. Dark Side starts to build up its own sound, influenced by 80´s music, but with a solid objective.

Second line up (2003-2004)

José Luis Agudelo “Cheo” joins in to fill William’s position as bassist. The band starts composing in the Trash Metal genre.

GEHENA and promotion (2005-2006)

Daniel Espitia fills in for Belman in the guitar post. His knowledge leads to the recording of the first album. The debut album of DARK SIDE is named after the first song of the band, “GEHENA”. This work is released and broadcasted in Boyacá, receiving great acceptance from the public; it contains elements from Trash, Heavy and Black metal.

Evolution and new compositions (2006-2007)

New songs containing more complex riffs and melodies are composed. The proposal of the band changes to a Trash/Death metal style. The website of the band is released.

Video clip and the “Folk” side (2007-2008)

In early 2007, the video clip “The Essence of my Life” was shot in the beautiful scenery of Boyacá and the Laguna de Tota. The band explores a folk side by including Andean instruments, such as the Quenacho (Long flute), the Zampoñas (Pan Pipes) and the Charango (Small string instrument). DARK SIDE receives an invitation from the organization Metal UN, to play in Bogotá. This is the first time the band plays in the capital city; the public goes crazy about DARK SIDE.

Variety of concerts (2009)

The band composes two progressive metal songs. DARK SIDE participates in a series of important festivals in the city of Bogotá. The group reaches the finals in “MySpace” and “Exporock”, and is granted the honor of being the support band for the North American band WHIPLASH, in “Thrashing Colombia Vol. 4”, always giving a good name for Boyacá’s metal.

10^th anniversary of artistic career (2010)

DARK SIDE celebrated ten years of artistic career in 2010, by organizing a concert with the support of METAL UN, local bands from Duitama, and groups from Bogotá. The event, “One decade of Metal Invasion”, was a success.

In August, 2011, DARK SIDE releases the EP “The Beginning of the End” in a special concert, alongside some local bands. The EP contains a multimedia menu that holds tracks of three new songs; the remake of “Sueño en Sodoma y Gomorra” and a bonus track of videos, including the videoclip “The Essence of my Life”, a tribute from metal, to the ancestral music and culture. Furthermore, the ticket of the concert included a special package for fans, including the Metal UN magazine, a poster of the band and an EP.

In September, DARK SIDE plays in the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, returning once again to Bogotá.

In December, 2011, the band visits Perú, playing in two unforgettable concerts in the city of LIMA, along with some of the most representative metal bands from that country. DARK SIDE obtains great recognition and positive responses from the public.

In August, 2012, the band releases a new video for the single “Immortal”, which will be included in the remake of the album “GEHENA”. It also contains the classic songs of the original album, two new songs and two covers in recognition to the most influential bands in the history of DARK SIDE.

In September, 2012, after several months away from stages, DARK SIDE undertakes a memorable presentation at the third BOYACÁ ROCK concert.

In May, 2013 the band played a impressive show in the concert hall Rock & Dog in Sogamoso, where once again demonstrated its superb staging and excellent show.

The band is currently working on the compositions of her new album that will be full of brutal riffs and addictives atmospheres .. and the story continues ...
